How is Shivaratri celebrated?

Shivaratri is celebrated on the new moon of Phagun (February or March) by making bonfires and visiting Lord Shiva’s temples, especially Pashupatinath. Thousands of devotees from all over the subcontinent gather here for a huge fair (mela). Bizarre yogic demonstrations can be observed throughout the day around the Pashupatinath complex.
