What are Outer Terai and Inner Terai?

The Terai region is divided into two parts: Outer Terai and Inner Terai. Outer Terai extends from the 1,000 metre Chure (or Siwalik) Range, the first and lowest range of Himalayan foothills, to the Gangetic plain to the south of the Indian border. Inner Terai refers to various elongated valleys lying between the Chure Range and the 2000 to 3000 metre Mahabharat Range further north. There are a number of low valleys (called Doons) like Chitwan, Dang and Deukhuri in this region.
