The Sugauli treaty with the British ceased Nepal’s territorial expansion. It was then that Nepal’s present day eastern and Western borders were established. Later on, the British in India gifted Nepal with the present day four districts in the far west, Banke, Bardia, Kailali and Kanchanpur, popularly known as Naya Muluk, New Kingdom.
